This is one of the most common questions that we get asked. Both are high-quality 3-way garden soils made right here in the Cheney area. However, they each contain a different type of compost. So, which is best? This really comes down to customer preference.
What Is a 3-Way Garden Soil Mix?
A 3-way soil mix typically combines:
- Topsoil, Loamy Soil, or Other Clean Dirt Material – this provides structure and native minerals
- Compost – this adds nutrients and organic matter
- Sand or Aggregate – this improves drainage and workability
These blends are great for raised beds, veggie gardens, or other growing areas!
Now, let’s Compare our 3-Way garden Soils.
What’s in Dow’s Garden Blend?
- Compost Type: City of Cheney Compost. This is a fully treated and processed bio-waste compost that comes from the treatment plant right here in Cheney. Due to it’s local production and high quality, it is a super popular soil amendment! It is widely used and trusted by local gardeners, landscapers, and farmers.
- Texture: Rich, smooth, and dark
- Best Uses: Vegetable gardens, raised beds, and revitalizing poor or compacted soil for planting
Note: Dow’s Garden Blend is made with fully treated biosolids compost that meets strict safety standards.
What’s in Eco Green Garden Mix?
- Compost Type: Eco-Green Compost. Eco Green Compost is a premium, plant-based soil amendment made from composted yard and green waste. Because of this, it’s ideal for customers who prefer a manure-free, eco-conscious option with a clean texture and neutral scent.
- Texture: Airy and slightly lighter
- Best Uses: Vegetable gardens, raised beds, and revitalizing poor or compacted soil for planting
Note: While Eco Green is largely plant-based, composting facilities may include trace materials from other sources during processing.
What About Premium Turf Builder?
Some customers confuse our Premium Turf Builder with our garden mixes. While it looks similar, it serves a different purpose. Premium Turf Builder is a top-quality topsoil blend with a lower compost content. It doesn’t have as many nutrients as Dow’s Garden Blend or Eco Green, but it’s perfect for:
- Leveling lawns before laying sod or grass seed
- Topdressing turf areas
- Creating a smooth, stable base for low-maintenance planting beds
This soil is clean, easy to spread, and can also work great low maintenance flowers or ornamental landscapes where high nutrient levels aren’t as critical.
