3 inch Railroad Ballast has been screened to remove most of its fines. This creates a uniform size and a more rugged look than our other gravels. Because it does not pack down the way products with fines do, railroad ballast works well for landscaping, drainage, and backfill projects where you want stone that stays loose and lets water move through.

Railroad Ballast is also what we recommend for extremely muddy conditions, especially 2 inches or more of solid mud. This is a large, angular rock product, and it is not recommended to drive on.

• General landscaping where a rugged, uniform look is wanted
